Amy is a guitar educator and musician who holds a B.A. in Music from Kennesaw State University as well as a B.S. in Computer Science from Georgia State University. Although her principle instrument is the guitar, she has played trumpet for most of her life and does teach beginners. She has been teaching guitar for the in the Atlanta area since 2007 and has experience teaching both children and adults.
With a passion for guitar education, Amy is currently involved in promoting and implementing the concept of classroom guitar as a for-credit class in public and private schools throughout the metro-Atlanta area. She currently serves on the board of directors, as well as the committee for Education and Outreach, for the Atlanta Guitar Guild, a non-profit organization focused on promoting guitar through performance and education.
In addition to teaching, Amy performs in a classical cello/guitar duo and is available for weddings and special events.
While at Kennesaw State, Amy studied with Mary Akerman, and has previously studied guitar with Angela "Bucky" Motter. She has attended masterclasses with musicians such as Emily Saliers, Dominic Frasca, and Roger Hudson. Amy's diverse studies have enabled her to not only become a more well rounded musician and teacher, but have also shown her that learning is an integral part of one's evolution.
